Home Remedies For Toothaches

A bad toothache can be extremely painful, making it difficult for you to eat, drink, talk, laugh and even concentrate. If you have a severe toothache the first thing you should do is to put out a call to your family dentist to make an appointment. Toothaches generally happen for a reason with some of the most common causes being a cavity or an exposed nerve. Until you can get in to see your dentist, you'll want to do everything you can to alleviate the pain, and the information in this article will help you do that.

Use ice to help relieve the pain and swelling

When you have a toothache it can cause your entire jaw to hurt and even become swollen. Holding an ice pack on your jaw will help to reduce swelling and temporarily bring relief by numbing the area.

Another way you can use ice to help relieve the pain of your toothache is to bite on an ice cube. Choose an ice cube that's small enough so you can easily bite on it and put it directly on the affected tooth.

Use herbs for some pain relief

Some herbs can be extremely helpful when it comes to taking away the pain and aching of a toothache. One herb that works well is clove. It's easiest to use clove oil for a toothache. All you do is take a piece of cotton and soak it in the clove oil until it is saturated and then place the cotton on or next to the affected tooth.

Clove oil can sting at first, but this will subside after a few minutes. Once a few moments pass, you will notice that the pain is gone. You should get relief for a while and once it comes back, you can apply more of the clove oil and it will work again.

Ginger can also be used to take a toothache away. The ginger root works well and you can use it by peeling the skin off and putting a piece of the root on the aching tooth. Bite down gently on the root to hold it in place and you should notice the pain is gone after a few moments. Replace the root with a new piece when the pain starts to come back.

Get in to see your dentist so they can figure out what's causing the toothache and treat the problem so you can avoid future incidences.

Dentistry for Kids

Anyone who provides a service specifically for the youngest among us knows that treating kids must be approached very differently from treating adults. Children are not like adult patients. They require a dental team that makes children feel safe and secure at every appointment. The pediatric dental staff also needs to understand how to work with parents as well as young patients. As a pediatric dental hygienist and a mom, I understand that specific needs of children when they are visiting the dentist. This blog will explain exactly what kids need from a dental staff and will give options for making the dental office a welcoming environment to children. We can give a whole new generation healthy smiles by making pediatric dentistry the best it can be.
