The most important things that you can do for your teeth are also very simple. They may seem so simple that you feel it will be okay to ignore them when they don't fit into your schedule or when they are otherwise inconvenient. However, overlooking these things can lead to future problems with your teeth including cavities, gum disease and discolored teeth.

Do three things daily: brush, floss and use mouthwash
No matter how busy you are or what you have going on each day you want to make sure you do three things no matter what. You want to brush when you wake up, before you go to sleep and anytime you eat something that you know is very bad for your teeth. You also want to be sure to floss after you eat so you can remove food pieces caught between your teeth that will cause bacteria and plaque to flourish.
You also want to use mouthwash before bed each night to be sure that you kill as much bacteria as possible before you sleep all night. Don't drink anything including water for a bit after using the mouthwash so it can do its job.
Have discipline when it comes to the foods you eat
Make sure to learn about the different foods that can cause more serious sustaining, like food coloring, tea, coffee, red pasta sauce, etc. Stay away from these foods when you can. Also, don't do any bad habits that put your teeth more at risk of injury or other issues. For example, don't chew ice which can break your teeth and stay away from sticky foods and candies which increases the chances of more plaque buildup.
Go in for your routine checkups and cleanings
While most people know they are supposed to go in yearly for exams and cleanings, many people put it off anyway. You don't want to do this because putting off those appointments can give your teeth time to really end up with problems and extreme staining.
You should at least be going in once a year for your exams, but it may be more often of your dentist has a reason for wanting you to come in more often.
